Topview proudly announces the start of the first European project as coordinator: CERTIFLIGHT “Certified E-GNSS remote tracking of drone and aircraft flights”

On 23 November 2022, the Kick-Off Meeting took place which marks the official start of the project.

Certiflight aims to develop and test a U-space service to generate certified flight reports.

The core of the system is a IoT device installed on UAS and ultralight aircraft, equipped with an Galileo OSNMA enabled receiver.

The Galileo OSNMA technology can guarantee the authenticity of position information at the origin, reducing risks from  signal counterfeiting or spoofing . The tracking information is encrypted and transmitted to the Certiflight platform to be permanently stored into an unalterable blockchain private node.

This solution is suitable for safety-critical flights and commercially valuable applications.

The CERTIFLIGHT project represents a very exciting challenge, as its goal is to ensure the “chain of trust” of information generated by drones and recreational aircraft accessing U-space airspace.

The CERTIFLIGHT platform will enable safer interaction between U-space users on the one hand and will lay the foundation for a new class of business services for UAS operators on the other.

Last but not least, the authenticity of the location information will enable the regulators to best meet the challenge of autonomous flight operations, where the determination of responsibility between manufacturers, operators and pilots (if any) could be a source of future legal disputes.

The project is coordinated by TopView s.r.l., a technology oriented SME and includes in its consortium companies and organisations with a proven track record in the U-space sector such as D-Flight, UpVision, Unifly, Distretto Tecnologico Aerospaziale, TA, The Sara Project, TuDelf, Way4WARD, Aria United, EuroUSC España and EuroUSC Italia.

Certiflight was presented to the call HORIZON-EUSPA-2021-SPACE-02-53: EGNSS applications for the Digital Age and became one of the projects selected by the European Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). The project starts in November 2022 and will have a duration of two and a half years (30 months) after signing the Grant Agreement no 101082484.
